25 Days of Joy: Day 5

Ayla met Santa today. Actually, this is her first photo with the big man himself. See we don't do the whole "santa" gig. He's a symbol of generousity during this season for us. We don't tell our kids he's real... or talk about him alot. I think he thinks he's cool like Mickey Mouse and she's pretty in to him this year. And I am ok with that. We won't be waiting in any lines to get a glimpse. Plus Leah is fearful (see previous post). Get me a line to take pics with Jesus... Im there.

But, she loved meeting him. She walked up to him and said you know what I want for Christmas? haha Then he said what? She blanked. And just kinda got lost in his eyes. hehe It was cute.

we don't do santa either... which is good for no heart broken kids later on, but not good when your kid is the one doing the heartbreaking! lol yep, two years in a row B has told his pre-school and now kindergarten class that santa is just a guy dressed up in a costume! YIKES!! so far no angry parents have called yelling at me, but i totally expected that to happen! hahaha!!

Ay is just looking sooo grown up these days!

We love Santa and definitely have fun talking about him, writing him letters, etc. I think as long as the kids know the true meaning, it's no different than hunting easter eggs on Easter? Anyway...Braylee has already come home from school saying that so & so said Santa's not real. She's not heartbroken & still wants to believe the magic a little longer which I'm happy about. :)

Couldn't agree more on the whole santa thing! I love knowing that our friends are teaching thier kids the same things so they can all grow up together knowing the same thing!

Ok... so let me clear things up! After I posted and then read it to myself it sounded kind of rude! I am just loving the idea that we are not the only ones telling our kids that Santa is just a man dressed up. And Chelsa, since we made it clear with Gabe this year that Santa is not real I have been terrified that he is going to break someones heart! So glad to know that someone has been there done that! The joys of motherhood!;)

We don't do Santa either...but they know about Santa as a story and they think it is fun to pretend.

i was just talking about this with some friends over the weekend who are doing santa with their kids - we are not. pete and i weren't planning to say anything yet (so, neither "santa is not real" nor "santa is real"), and we will just hope for the best. just in case, i already planned a little speech to read to 5 year old theo that says "you need to respect other people's beliefs and what is right for our family is not what is right for every family and maybe you should not bring this up at school so that it won't hurt people's feelings" but from reading chelsa's comment, it seems like that might happen anyway!

So sweet!

We have a blast telling our girls about Santa and Jesus!

Alli has done great with knowing the TRUE meaning (she has learned a lot at WC preschool) as well as Church...but also believes in Santa and that she must behave to get presents =) This year she's old enough I explained that mommys and daddys help wrap presents for Santa also! I will have to post the video of her watching the video! PRICELESS!

Hunter figured it out last year :( I must say I was sad, b/c it's so much fun to see their faces totally surprised on Christmas morning. This year it's been fun to have her help with Alli and Stella's things!
